In years gone by, before cameras were invented, the only way to capture a memory like a wedding was through an artist. It's a tradition that I want to keep alive and a way of preserving the day the way royalty has done for generations.
Except now, having a live painting isn't just reserved for aristocracy, but it can be a reality for you.
On the day of your wedding, I arrive before your chosen moment and start painting the background from life. When the key moment happens I take a few reference photos to carry on working from. Through the evening, guests come over to see how it's progressing … even adding their own little touch to it!
I paint in a loose, expressive style so that you can see the brushstrokes whilst still capturing the scene in a realistic way. The goal for me isn't to just replicate a photo, but to represent it through my own vision and memory of the day.
At the end of the night, you will see a mostly completed painting before it is taken back to my studio for touch-ups.
A few months later it arrives framed, ready to hang and stays with you for the rest of your life.
I've always loved going to museums and looking at the paintings from a few hundred years ago. They feel like a gateway into someone's life. And I'm fairly sure that at the time, no one expected a 21st-century audience to still be standing there, looking in, seeing a memory from centuries ago.
Looked after properly, an oil painting stays vibrant for a lifetime and well beyond it.
It might be your great-grandchildren stood in front of it one day, as if they were there!

About a month before the wedding we have a call to discuss all the details, which moment you want painted, the timings, the style you're going for. I want to hear your vision and ideas. If you're not sure what you want exactly, I can help with that: mood boards, suggestions, whatever's useful. As your wedding gets closer I check in regularly so we're both prepared. Venue changes or timeline shifts are no problem, I just adapt.
I arrive 1–2 hours before to set up my easel and start painting the background from life. For the key moment you want captured, I take a few reference photos to work from. I coordinate with your photographer and videographer beforehand so I'm never in their way.
Guests come over throughout the evening to see how it's progressing, which I love. They can even add a brushstroke themselves if they want to. At the end of the night I show you the painting before I take it home with me to finish.
Back in the studio I complete the finishing details, varnish it, and have it framed in whichever frame you chose. Then it's carefully packaged and posted, fully insured, usually around 2–5 months after the wedding.
The framing, the packaging, and getting it to you safely. All sorted. You don't need to think about any of it.
£1m public liability, the standard for most venues. I can send your venue a certificate whenever they need one.
Oil on wood panel/canvas, varnished against UV. Original oil paintings last for centuries when they're looked after, and I'll send you the care instructions to make sure yours does.
Packaged carefully and fully insured in transit. If anything goes wrong it would be repaired, remade, or refunded.
Every painting comes with a signed certificate and care instructions.
“We were both moved to tears. Thank you so much for the talent and hard work you put into this painting for us! We are so grateful you made the efforts to come out to our wedding and capture such a monumental moment of our life. Words can't express how filled with gratitude we are with both paintings.”
“We can't stop looking at it, it's honestly the most special thing, we're feeling so blessed and grateful you were there and every single one of our guests has said you were unbelievably talented, they were blown away just like us. If anyone is reading this comment and is undecided about a wedding painter at their wedding, you will not regreat it and it HAS to be Caitlin xxx”
“Caitlin truly exceeded our expectations! The painting perfectly captures our expressions and I could not have asked for more”
“What can I say other than stunning, just breathtakingly stunning. The vibrancy and the level of detail are truly amazing. Than you so very much for the level of care you have put into this”
“Absolutely Unreal!!”

Get in touchI take a handful of destination weddings a year: from Italy to California. They're genuinely some of my favourite weddings to be part of.
Destination fees are a travel add-on on top of your chosen package, not the full price. They start from +£1,000 within Europe and +£2,500 further afield. The exact quote depends on where you're getting married and the logistics of getting there, we work through it together on a call.
I take a limited number of weddings each year so dates do book up. Fill in your details below and I'll come back to you personally about availability. No pressure at all.
